About the Department: Established in 2020, the Diabetes Department boasts 18 inpatient beds, including five two-bed rooms, two three-bed rooms, and two single rooms for isolation patients. While initially dedicated to diabetes and diabetic foot care, the department expanded its services in 2021 to accommodate all endocrinology patients.

History: Following a visit by Dr. Aghajani to the Endocrinology Research Institute in 2018 and subsequent approvals, the decision to establish the Diabetes Department was made. The department officially opened in 2020 on the fifth floor of the main hospital building. It is closely affiliated with the Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Center's laboratory, which plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and follow-up of endocrine disorders using advanced laboratory techniques.
The department's diabetes clinics, particularly Clinic 1, are actively involved in the follow-up of patients, especially those with diabetic foot ulcers. Patients are referred to these clinics for post-discharge care.
The department offers comprehensive training at various levels, including for subspecialty residents, residents, medical students, and nursing students. Specialized courses such as a month-long diabetes course, as well as courses on diabetic foot ulcers, osteoporosis, and obesity, are regularly conducted.
Educational Background: The center for nuclear medicine and internal endocrinology research at Tehran University was established in 1965. This was the first building on the site that later became Shariati Hospital. In 1980, a joint endocrinology subspecialty training program was established at Shahid Beheshti and Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Since 1998, Tehran University of Medical Sciences has independently accepted subspecialty residents in endocrinology, with Shariati Hospital serving as a primary training center. Residents, interns, and internal medicine students at Shariati Hospital also complete their endocrinology rotations in this department.
Due to its distinguished faculty and close ties with the Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute, the Endocrinology Department at Shariati Hospital is one of the leading centers in the country for training healthcare professionals in endocrinology. Trainees receive both clinical The Endocrinology Department's training program, involving

faculty, fellows, residents, interns, and students, comprises the following:1.
    Morning Report (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 8-9 AM): Daily rounds and discussions on new admissions and significant changes in patient status.
Ward and Emergency Room Rounds: Conducted daily to assess patient progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
.    Endocrinology Clinic: Held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for outpatient consultations.
.    Diabetes Clinic: Open from Saturday to Thursday, providing specialized care for patients with diabetes.
.    Grand Rounds: Weekly sessions on Fridays for in-depth discussions of complex cases and recent advancements in the field.
.    Journal Club: Held on Wednesdays to review and discuss current literature in endocrinology.
.    In-service Conferences and Patient Presentations: Conducted on Thursdays to present new cases and discuss treatment approaches.
.    Educational Sessions: Daily sessions, following clinics or conferences, focusing on common endocrine disorders.
